I first started freshwater and beach fishing with my dad around 1977. Then in 1979, I got my first taste of carp fishing; crucian carp to be honest. It was my older cousin who took me, freelining sweetcorn and catching some stunning crucian carp, the seed for carp fishing was well and truly sewn !!

It was a magical time for carp fishing , the golden era something i wouldnt change for the world !!

Bait at the time was small potatoes, luncheon meat, cheese and sweetcorn.
When the first paste baits started to appear on the scene, this is when my fascination with carp bait started

Back in 2009 I started Essex Carp Baits with a good friend. Over the years, I had learnt so much regarding bait and our quarry the “carp”, learning from some of the best there is and studying many reports and books from the “masters” that are the Japanese.
My days at ECB came unfortunately to an end in 2015.

Fast forward now to march 2021, I was encouraged by Mat, a good friend and loyal customer from ECB to maybe get back in to the bait game, but solely concentrating on bespoke hookbaits.
So with my knowledge that I had gained from 1979 and onwards, the contacts that I had made, my unlimited access to bespoke flavours and feed stimulants, my access to some of the best bait brains in the business…………High Performance Hookbaits was formed.

High Performance Hookbaits are all hand rolled by myself. Nothing is farmed out to a second party, everything is done in house.
I have a great team behind me, the best friends and family I could ask for; I couldnt have done it without them.
And if there is anything or something I need to know or a new idea, I have a flavour manufacturer on hand,
and of course my good friend Jason (the mad scientist) is my go to bait man !!!
